Bono in Concert... 1987 Joshua Tree
July 11, 2010
I took this photo on the last concert of U2 first leg of “The Joshua Tree” American tour at The Meadowland, New Jersey, just outside NYC, in May 1987.
U2 were on the verge of becoming the most popular and exiting band in the world. The album and the single, “With Or Without You”, were # 1 and they graced the cover of Rolling Stone and Time magazine simultaneously.
Bono was wearing a poncho that he got in Las Cruces, New Mexico, at the beginning of the tour. The girl in the audience was holding an Irish flag and Bono reached out to touch her hands.
To me it symbolizes the most magical moment that happens in a rock concert: when the stage and the audience melts together in the heath of the show and the place become ONE.
The photo made a two page spread on the prestigious Max Magazine, in Italy, in the Summer of 1987... and my Christmas card, that year.
