Shatter Island is the 4th movie collaboration between master director Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. I liked the film a lot. It reminded me Scorsese of Cape Fear... Shatter Island is a mental hospital for the criminal insane, but it could also represent the labyrinth of life. Leo plays a marshall called to investigate the disappearance of a patient... Or will he?

This is what DiCaprio, on a real man’s acting job, told me about the movie, without giving away the story;

“This movie is an interesting one to publicize because I don’t really know where to begin and where to end and I think that’s what Scorsese wanted for the movie. It’s like an emotional roller-coaster and you don’t even know how to feel at the end of the movie and it’s being of course advertised very specifically as a thriller, a psychological thriller, a Hitchcockian sort of genre type film but at the end of the day what Martin Scorsese does best is depict something about humanity and who we are as people and he focuses on the emotion of the characters at the end of the day so as much as style plays a part of this and as much as people will be attracted to the scares and the thrills of it, it is a story about who we are as people and that’s what he does best. That’s what he’s done so well in Taxi Driver or Raging Bull -- all these movies depict the dark side of humanity and expose that, no matter how uncomfortable it may be.

DiCaprio: This movie maybe expected to be one thing, but I think people are going to go into the theatre finding something entirely different.
